What is Ballad and its types ?

          Ballad:-

Ballad is derived from the word "Ballare " which  means to dance.

A short story in verse is called Ballad.

It is a form of verse to be sung with the accompaniment of dance and presentation of a dramatic or an exciting episode in narrative form. Ballad were transmitted from one generation to another between semi literate or illiterate people.

The minstrel or bard (singer) would sing the main parts and the dancers would refrain certain lines repeatedly, but then the dance was dropped out and it became more and more simple.

The language of ballad would be simple and would be delivered through dialogue action. 

Themes :- 

Love, battles, heroic deeds, supernatural incidents and local events were main themes of ballad.

KINDS OF BALLAD :- 

#1:- Traditional Ballad :-

It is anonymous and is passed out from singer to singer through mouth. Thus it belongs to oral tradition.

" The nut Brown " and " chasy chase " are  two famous traditional ballads.

#2:- Literary Ballad:-

It is not anonymous and is written down by a poet as he composes it .

" La Bella dame sans merci " is a literary ballad.

#3:- Popular Ballad :-

It is also known as growth ballad or street side ballad. It is often considered a part of traditional ballad.
