What is drama ?

Drama
:-

Definition :-

Composition of prose and verse adopted to be performed on stage.
                  OR

Narration which is presented by characters on stage through dialogue and actions.

It means to do or to perform.
Drama is basically a genre of literature which is to be performed on stage. The narrator narrates the story and the actors make it along with dialogue and actions. The theme of drama can be of any type but mostly the events which can be presented on stage are the main purpose.
The most prominent dramatist of all time was Shakespeare, who took drama to its peak point during his age.

Types of drama:-

#1:- Comedy :- 

The type of drama in which characters are placed in more humourous way and to make the audience laugh. These types of dramas are happy ending.
Ralph roister doister was the first comedy drama of English literature.

#2:- Tragedy :-

It is taken from Greek words 
" Tragous oide " which means Goat Song.
It was called goat song because the winners of the song would be given goat as an award at that time.
Murders , death and pain are among the most common ideas of tragedy.
The most important thing about tragedy is that it have sad endings.

#3:- Tragic comedy :-

It is the combination of both comedy and tragedy. It is a kind of drama that will be tragic at the middle but will have a happy ending.

#4:- Melodrama :-

We can call it an exaggerated form of drama. It is a type of drama where the plot is more sensational and designed to arouse strong emotions and feelings of audience.
It can have a protagonist ( Hero ) and an Antagonist ( Villain ).

Elements of drama:-

The following are some of the elements which constitute the drama.

Plot :-
  
It act as a structural framework which bring events and  incidents in a proper way and with coherence.

Characters :-

The agents that carry forward the drama. There are other supporting characters along with protagonist  and antagonist.


Diction :-

It refers to the exchange of words between the characters.

Settings :-

The supposition of time and place where the incidents actually happened. 
Costumes , make up, Background, visuals and the sound are parts of settings.

Language :-

Which makes the drama understandable to audience.

Conflict :-

Playwright Bernard Shaw said that there can be no drama without the conflict between the characters, so it is also an essential element of drama.
